Happiness works the same way, our sensitivity to it depends on the rate at which we’re exposed to thrill. The happiest I’ve ever felt in my life was finally arriving at the Melbourne Assessment Prison in 2012. For about a month prior to getting there I’d been kept in police station cells due to prison overcrowding. I’d eaten only two slop microwave meals per day, had seen no sunlight, hadn’t showered, had no change of clothes and shared a holding cell with seven other detainees. We slept on the floor because there weren’t enough plastic pillows for everyone to make beds out of. It’s actually a “human rights violation” to keep people in those conditions for longer than two weeks, but they just move you to a different police station after your two weeks has elapsed, as a loophole to reset the clock. But after arriving at an actual prison, washing, shaving, putting on fresh clothes and sitting outside eating an apple in the sun, that was easily the happiest moment of my life. You could’ve given me a free Bugatti on a regular day said it’s yours to keep, it wouldn’t have compared to how thrilled I felt eating that apple that day. The point is that without abstinence we don’t truly feel, taste or appreciate anything for what it is. Going without even just for a little while dramatically enhances your experiences, gets more carbs into your muscles and just makes life easier to appreciate. That’s what I was thinking about while eating these cashews.

Happy Halloween. This is about as festive as I’ll ever get.

Today someone told me something and it got me thinking. They said women fall in love with the future. I immediately knew that was true and I sensed there was some deep esoterica in there, so naturally I stopped everything I was doing and fixated on unfolding it. I realised that while women idealise romantic futures, men go on to build those futures and while it’s not something they like to openly admit they do it for women. So women fall in love with men who build the future. But men don’t build for themselves and this is very important to understand, because we don’t do much of anything for ourselves besides what’s necessary. We’ll happily sleep in sheds, wear rags, live recklessly and throw our lives at a cause after one good speech or poster. It’s not because we’re stupid, we just have a realistic relationship with the world and our own mortality. What makes us want to stick around, build something substantial and defend it is our admiration for women. Now someone will say men actually build for their children, or even for “the nation” and while that’s definitely true somewhere down the line, the basis of this urge must begin with women, since without women there can be no family and no nation. This is an intrinsic and dynamic exchange between men and women which is obviously abused by modernity, where many women have ceased to be admirable in any meaningful sense, while men have come to be both spelled by and resentful of female narcissism. This is fundamentally why a lot of us don’t build a future anymore and if we do it’s without much enthusiasm. It’s why everything new is shit, because the OG builders have checked-out and the civilisation they created out of love has been inherited by insipid merchants, churning out nothing but crude copies of real creative works and inviting in the orcs, for the sake of wealth extraction. The essence of what I’m saying is men historically built everything for their love of women, but ever since women were allowed to mutate themselves into silicone ass demons, we stopped building and the merchants moved in. Mutant whores aren’t just unpleasant, they mark the end of civilisation.
