During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military recruited Native American trackers and scouts. According to the story, something extraordinary began to happen. The talents and abilities these men had demonstrated on their reservations seemed to mysteriously disappear, as one recruit after another failed to achieve the expected results in the field. When asked to explain their failures, the older recruits consistently replied that they could no longer sense the presence of the enemy once their hair had been cut in accordance with military regulations. They could no longer rely on their sixth sense. Their intuition was no longer dependable, and they had lost much of their ability to interpret subtle signs in their surroundings. According to certain Native American beliefs, hair is an extension of the nervous system — a kind of highly developed sensory apparatus or antenna capable of transmitting vast amounts of important information to the brainstem, the limbic system, and the neocortex. Two Watches One Sunday morning, an elderly gentleman walked into a small bakery wearing two watches — a silver one on his left wrist and a gold one on his right.
