🏥 Resident Doctors Give FG 14-Day Strike Warning Nigeria's National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Federal Government, threatening industrial action if outstanding welfare and professional demands are not resolved. The ultimatum was adopted at NARD's 46th Annual General Meeting in Calabar and presented by President Dr Emmanuel Ogar. Key demands include improved remuneration, faster career progression, professional allowances, compensation for excess workload caused by manpower shortages, and better hospital infrastructure. NARD also called on the National Assembly to strengthen health sector budgetary allocations. The association cited slow implementation of previously agreed terms as the trigger, warning that continued delays had become unacceptable. It also raised concerns over attacks on healthcare workers and the ongoing migration of Nigerian doctors abroad, which it said has intensified pressure on remaining staff. Source

🛡 Plateau attackers kill 11 despite active curfew Armed groups have killed at least 11 people across several communities in Plateau State over two days, defying a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The curfew covers Mangu, Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas. Attackers described as terrorists and bandits carried out the raids despite both the curfew restrictions and a security presence in the affected areas. Plateau State has faced recurring communal and armed violence, with the curfew representing one of the state government's measures to curb escalating attacks in these local government areas. Source

💥 Five miners killed in second Barkin Ladi attack in 72 hours Gunmen ambushed and killed five miners, injuring two others, at Marit village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State. The attack came less than 72 hours after a separate ambush in the Gangare area of Barkin Ladi killed three miners, bringing the death toll from both incidents to at least eight. Barkin Ladi has been a recurring flashpoint for violence in Plateau State, where clashes between farming and herding communities, as well as armed attacks on civilians, have caused significant casualties in recent years. 🇳🇬 Nigeria criminalises artisanal miners as global critical minerals race heats up Thirty-seven Nigerians died in state custody in Minna, Niger State, after being detained as part of Nigeria's enforcement crackdown on artisanal miners — a pattern critics say undermines the country's potential in the global race for critical minerals. Nigeria's current approach relies on raid-and-detention enforcement against small-scale miners while mining licences are largely allocated to wealthy, well-connected interests — mirroring how oil blocs have historically been distributed. Analysts argue Nigeria should instead formalise artisanal mining through dedicated small-scale licences, safety training, geological data access, and equipment leasing schemes — steps that could integrate informal miners into a regulated sector rather than criminalising them. ⚖️ Man held over alleged killing of infant daughter in Bauchi Bauchi State Police have arrested Muhammad Garba Ladan, 27, over the alleged strangulation of his four-month-old daughter, Fatimah Muhammad, in Zirami, Azare, on Thursday, September 24. The child's mother told police she had left the baby asleep at home while visiting a neighbour. On returning, she found the infant unresponsive and allegedly saw her husband leaving the room. A doctor at Azare General Hospital confirmed the cause of death as strangulation. The mother also alleged her husband had made previous attempts to harm the child, which she linked to the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy prior to their marriage. Ladan is currently undergoing preliminary investigation. The infant's remains were released to relatives for burial. Source

🇳🇬 ABU lecturer shot dead after farmhouse abduction Armed gunmen kidnapped and killed Dr Iliyasu Abubakar Sadiq, a lecturer and researcher at Ahmadu Bello University's Division of Agricultural Colleges in Zaria, on Sunday, 20 September 2026. Four armed men broke into his farmhouse at Tudun Muntsira, near ABU's Samaru Campus, around 10am and dragged him away despite pleas from his family. His body was found at Karau-Karau village at around 2pm — he had been shot in the head. His phone and other belongings were taken. Dr Sadiq, a specialist in Entomology and former Head of Programme for Pest Management at ABU, leaves behind a widow, Hajiya Baraka, and several children, the youngest approximately eight months old. His last words were a plea to his wife to care for their children as he was taken away. Source
