🇺🇸 Blue wave sweeps red states: Democrats poised to take Senate Multiple seats have flipped in Republican-leaning states amid voter concerns over the economy, fuel prices linked to the Iran war, and other issues. Democrats are projected to gain control of the Senate, The Economist reports. 📍 Maine: Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who is seeking a sixth term, faces Democrat Troy Jackson. Early returns, with roughly 50% of the vote estimated to have been counted, show Jackson ahead. Ranked-choice voting applies, and the race remains uncalled as counting continues. Late polls had Jackson holding a narrow lead. 📍 Ohio: Democrat Sherrod Brown is projected to defeat appointed Republican Sen. Jon Husted, flipping the seat. With around 88–93% of the vote reported, Brown leads by roughly 48.6% to 46.5%. 📍 Michigan: Democrat Abdul El-Sayed leads former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers in the race for the open seat previously held by retiring Democrat Gary Peters. Early returns, with roughly 40% of the vote counted, show El-Sayed ahead by several points (around 50–53% to 45–47%). The race has not been universally called, with some reports noting that the margin is narrowing as more votes are counted. Democrats are nevertheless favored to hold the seat. Polls had El-Sayed in the lead. 📍 Alaska: Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan faces Democrat Mary Peltola. Polls closed late, and no substantial results were available in the early tallies. Pre-election polls showed a close contest, with Peltola holding a slight edge in polling averages. 📍 Iowa: Democrat Josh Turek is projected to defeat Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson, flipping the open seat left by retiring Sen. Joni Ernst. With more than 90% of the vote reported, Turek leads with roughly 50%. This would be the first Democratic Senate victory in Iowa since 2008, in a state Trump carried by about 13 points. Multiple outlets have projected the result. 📍 Kansas: Democrat Adam Hamilton is projected to defeat Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, flipping the seat. With more than 90% of the vote reported, Hamilton leads with roughly 52%. This would be the first Democratic Senate victory in Kansas since 1932, in a state Trump carried by about 16 points. 📍 Texas: Democrat James Talarico is projected to defeat Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, flipping the seat previously held by retiring Sen. John Cornyn. With roughly 70% of the vote reported, Talarico leads by a wide margin, at around 59%. This would be the first Democratic Senate victory in Texas since 1988, in a state Trump carried by about 14 points. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🇷🇺 Russia's strength lies in its ability to unite different peoples and cultures – lawmaker The Russian people's strength lies in their ability to unite different peoples and preserve their cultures within a single state, Konstantin Zatulin, a member of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told Sputnik. Speaking at a meeting of the Council for Interethnic Relations on Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin said that external forces had repeatedly tried throughout history to divide Russian society and break up the country to eliminate Russia as a geopolitical competitor. He emphasized that unity among Russia's peoples has been crucial to preserving the country and strengthening its sovereignty. “The strength of the Russian people, as the nation that forms the foundation of the state, lies in their ability to bring different peoples together over hundreds of years while preserving their cultures and identities. This extraordinary achievement allowed us to build such a vast country,” Zatulin said. The lawmaker recalled that Russia had experienced two major collapses in the 20th century: the fall of the Russian Empire amid World War I and the 1917 Revolution, and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, when, as he put it, “we confused ourselves.” He warned against allowing internal divisions to undermine Russia's multinational unity and stability, particularly amid the ongoing military operation in Ukraine and challenges related to migration policy. According to Zatulin, Russians must act wisely to prevent internal disagreements from being exploited by outside forces. “That is the message of the Russian president, which I fully and wholeheartedly support,” he concluded. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt
