🇻🇪🇺🇸 U.S. and Venezuela Negotiate Military Cooperation, but U.S. Bases Are Off the Table for Now The United States and Venezuela are negotiating a military cooperation agreement to expand their security ties. The information was published by The New York Times, which cites officials from both countries and notes that the operation involved intelligence from the CIA and participation from Venezuelan forces. The possibility of establishing U.S. military bases or deploying troops in Venezuela is also part of the questions surrounding the scope of the agreement. However, a senior State Department official assured the media that there are currently no discussions on that topic, and that any decision is "very far off." Washington plans to expand its security cooperation with Caracas, despite infrastructure challenges and nearly a decade without operational ties between the two militaries. The U.S. Embassy in Caracas, recently reopened after seven years, has a military attaché and a small contingent of Marines. The negotiations are taking place amid pressure to define an electoral calendar. While the administration of Delcy Rodríguez maintains dialogue with Washington, Marco Rubio is pushing for discussions on electoral reforms, and María Corina Machado is demanding presidential elections before July.

According to the report, White House officials asked Machado and her political movement to avoid promoting large gatherings against Chavismo.
