The apostle Peter warns us about opposition from outside the household of faith and danger that can arise within it. But before we look for that danger in someone else, we should examine our own hearts.
When you find yourself speaking against a brother or sister’s work, pause and ask: Why am I doing this? Is there a genuine concern that needs to be addressed, or have envy, resentment, or a desire to see them fail begun to shape my words?
We must be willing to correct error. But if you are about to accuse someone of not being Christlike, make sure your own words and conduct are Christlike first. Be careful that, in confronting what you believe is wrong, you do not attack people or tear down the work God is doing through them.
Guard your heart. Examine your motives. Speak the truth with humility and love.
